Where were you born? Hong Kong.
Where else have you lived? I studied my degree in America; and lived for a short while in Paris before marrying my French husband.
How long have you been in Hong Kong? I lived most of my life in Hong Kong but have been traveling all around America, Europe and Asia since I have gotten my adult passport!
Which part of Hong Kong do you live in? Discovery Bay.
Children and ages? Three kids — ages one, three, and six.
Why did you decide to create DB Mothers & Friends? What is it all about? In the beginning when I created DB Mothers & Friends, it was just a Facebook group trying to join moms in DB, as well as singles (male/female, i.e. everybody) to share local tips and support to promote a convivial community. Then, when I started to share my tips on donating furniture and appliances, the response was amazingly overwhelming!
I learned that most charities do not have enough resources to collect donations in only one district – Discovery Bay. So, I started to voluntarily work out the collection logistic plans. Now, DB Mothers & Friends is registered and a social enterprise providing collection service for charities, schools, churches, and those in need, via the contact of social workers.
What work did you do in your past lives? My last job before I quit my career for my family was a local secondary school teacher.
What brought you to Hong Kong and why have you stayed? Fred, my French husband brought me back to HK! Why? To stay married with my husband!
What time of day do you check Hong Kong Moms? Whenever I have a second for surfing!
What posts do you comment on and why? Whatever posts I find myself having something to contribute to — I can’t wait to comment! Why? Sharing is caring!
What is the best thing you have learned from Hong Kong Moms? The power of social media to help us integrate our lives with each other — both to share living tips and encourage people faced difficulties. We never feel alone with Hong Kong Moms!
What is your favorite Hong Kong Moms post? Whenever there is any posts asking for help. Seeing how generous Hong Kong Moms are with their support is my all-time favorite!
What do you ask Hong Kong Moms? I enjoy asking Hong Kong Moms to let us collect and redistribute their preloved items for environmental and socially beneficial causes.
What is your biggest Hong Kong fave and frustration? Fave: As being a HK-bred woman, I’m proud of the efficiency of how people get things done in no time and the energy of people here. The city never sleeps (like me at the moment)!
Frustration: Seeing Hong Kong losing its competitiveness in these last couple of decades frustrates me daily. There are a lot of areas HK needs a long vision in development, like environmental protection, the education system, population policy, use of land, and district development. But the biggest frustration is the HK lifestyle – over reliance on a life with an ‘”affordable” fulltime, foreign domestic helper in each home.
What is your craziest Hong Kong experience? The crowd of people in the city makes me crazy. When walking in the street, especially with my three young kids, or getting out from the train at the platform of Olympic station — everybody (mostly physically-well adults) is running to the lift without consideration for ones with strollers, young kids, or the disabled.
Have you met any friends through Hong Kong Moms? Yes I do! And I’ve connected back with old lost friends from the past!
